Professional chefs and nutritionists volunteer their time and expertise to lead hands-on courses that instruct adults, teens and kids living on a low-income how to get the most nutrition out of a limited budget. This outstanding program will become the keystone for the outreach programs of the Queens Galley in 2008. The curriculum support, training, evaluation and recognition of an acclaimed national program partnered with the volunteers and passion of the Queens Galley workshop series will mean better nutrition education programs available to residents of the Hudson Valley.
Fans of Emeril Live from the t.v. food network may recognize the backdrop of this photo. This past week I had the exciting opportunity to visit the food network along with a core of Cooking Matters coordinators from around the nation. Cooking Matters is a program of Share Our Strength (click on the photo for an active link to Share Our Strength to learn more about how they are fighting childhood hunger). The Queens Galley is working with Share Our Strength to bring Cooking Matters classes to the Hudson Valley.
According to the Share Our Strength website, more than 12 million children are at risk of hunger in America. Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters® is a groundbreaking nutrition education program that helps families help themselves by teaching them how to prepare healthy low-cost meals.
